摘要:The goal of this study was to shed light on the organisation of the bilingual sublexical spelling system by examining the patterns of cross-linguistic generalisation in a treatment study of acquired dysgraphia. Sublexical spelling consists in applying knowledge about typical phoneme-grapheme (PG) mappings to generate plausible spellings for real words or pseudo-words. An interesting aspect of bilingual spelling is that while some PG mappings are identical, others may differ. Thus, we examined what effect treating PG mappings in English may have on Welsh as a function of whether or not the mappings were identical in the two languages. Under the hypothesis that there is shared information/interaction between the English and the Welsh spelling systems (see Figure 1), we predicted that retraining PG mappings in English would help Welsh spelling but only for shared mappings.
