  • 摘要:It is estimated that 60% of the world is bi-multilingual. The increasing prevalence of individuals who speak two or more languages creates a pressing need to understand the nature of impairment and recovery in bi-multilingual speakers who have post-stroke aphasia. Current research on bilingual aphasia has only begun to inform us about the optimal rehabilitation for bilingual aphasie patients and the literature is still sparse in terms of interpreting impairment and recovery in these individuals. Two recent reviews (Faroqi-Shah, et al., 2010; Lorenzen & Murray, 2008) highlight the beneficial effects of rehabilitation in bilingual aphasie patients however, both reviews underscore the need for theoretically motivated and experimentally controlled rehabilitation studies. In this symposium, we present an update on studies examining rehabilitation of bilingual aphasia. Recent work has focused on various domains of language processing in bilingual aphasia; as part of this symposium, we present a diverse set of studies that are linked by their underlying reference to theoretical models of bilingual language processing.
