JEPonline2018;21(1):36-43. This study investigated the cardiovascular, neuromuscular, and metabolic responses of physically activesubjects (7 men and 6 women with a mean age of 29.5 ± 6 yrs)during a resisted sled towing (RST) session. The protocol used inthe RST session consisted of 5 training blocks with a 2 min restinterval between each block. Each block consisted of 2 sets of 20 mwith a 30-sec rest interval between each series. For each series, thesubjects had to push the towing sled at maximum acceleration for 20 mwith an intensity equivalent to 75% of each subject’s body weight. Theresults showed a significant increase in heart rate (P<0.05), asignificant decrease in absolute and relative maximum muscle power(P<0.0001), and significant increase in blood lactate (P<0.0001) afterthe RST session. Thus, this training approach (RST with stimulustime, intensity, and rest interval between sets and blocks) resulted ina great stress on the subjects’ cardiovascular and neuromuscularresponses with an increase in the dependence on anaerobicmetabolism.
