摘要:The study of symbology within the three-dimensional cartographic representation context is the topic of this paper. Aiming at the paper theme, a qualitative cartographic perception test was used which is based on the analysis of distinct three-dimensional models with different symbology. The study case is rural area that is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The first model resembles a common topographic map, the second one a tourist maps, and the last one uses a more complex symbology that aims at imitating the real world by using satellite images and textures extracted from real objects. The test aimed at understanding the perception of the information process of a three-dimensional map within an interactive environment. The final result shows that some rules of 2D maps design should be kept whole producing a 3D map, and that other rules must be substituted, due to the differences of the presentation media.
