摘要:Focusing on the cultural and socialvalues of the Arabian Nights in ArabIslamichistory, we have investigatedthe formative mechanism of the socalledEgyptian recension of theArabian Nights, with a particularemphasis on its socio culturalbackground in the Modern and preModernArab worlds. Our research hasbeen supported by a Grant-in-Aid forScientific Research (A), provided by theJapan Society for the Promotion ofScience (JSPS). Here, we introduce ourresearch on: (1) origins of the ArabianNights, (2) the second Calcutta editionand the Arabian Nights databaseproject, (3) digitization and catalogpublication of the “Mardrus CollectionBequest,” and (4) manuscripts of theOne Hundred and One Nights.
