摘要:One of the sustainable construction keys is making decisions about the selection of structural materials on a sustainable whole life value basis. In order to make these decisions related to sustainable development, decision support system (DSS) can be used because it is a powerful tool especially if merged with multiple-criteria decision-making technique to expand its capabilities. This paper is concerned with developing a framework for a computer-based DSS that supports and facilitates the process of sustainable evaluation and selection of structural materials used in the construction industry. The system utilises the multiple criteria of sustainability and material total life thinking integrated into a multi-attribute decision-making approach to formulate the problem model. Microsoft Visual Basic and Excel are used to automate the system as well as to establish the graphical user interface. The paper presents the role that soft technology can play to move towards sustainable construction by developing an automated DSS to assist improving the quality of the decision-making process of sustainable selection of structural materials by linking it to the structural element design process.
