摘要:The present study on Doodh Ganga and Khansha-Mansha streams was undertaken during 2011 and deals with the general ecological studies on phytoplankton community in terms of species composition and density. During the present investigation the phytoplankyon community was represented by 24 taxa which belonged to 3 major classes namely Bacillariophyceae (9), Chlorophyceae (11) and Cyanophyceae (4). The most common phytoplankton species encountered across all the sites included Zygnema sp., Amphora sp., Cymbella sp., Gomphonema sp., Fragilaria sp., Navicula sp., , Tabellaria sp., Lyngbya sp., Calothrix sp. and Phormidium sp. Among the two streams, Doodh Ganga showed large number of taxa (36) and Khansha-Mansha had 33 taxa of phytoplankton. Bacillariophyceae was the dominant group both in diversity and density and included 9 taxa contributing 51% of total phytoplankton population. Chlorophyceae form the second dominant class, represented by 11 genera comprising 35% of the total phytoplankton population. Cyanophyceae ranked third in its dominance pattern with 4 genera forming 14% of all the phytoplankton population. Amongst the study sites the highest (5.11) value of Shannon Weiner Index was found at Doodh Ganga downstream while as the lowest (4.88) at Khansha-Mansha downstream. Sorensen's similarity coefficient was found the highest (98.41) between Khansha-Mansha upstream/KhanshaMansha downstream and the lowest (90.64) between Doodh Ganga upstream/KhanshaMansha upstream.
