摘要：This article analyzes the policies of the Society of Jesus in the 16th and 17th centuries regarding the ordination of mestizos and the doctrine of purity of the blood as an attempt of the Peruvian Jesuit authorities to keep the “impure” away from the centers of power. Mestizos were always suspected of jeopardizing the necessary hierarchy which stratified the colonial order. From this premise, I will try to prove that the exclusion of “Jesuit impure” had nothing to do with the mixing per se, but with the consolidation of the criollo as a social emerging category in Peru of the beginning at the 17th century.
