摘要:In every writings, not only in poems or poetries, but also in any prose, we oftenfind a simile. Simile is a part of figures of speech which compares two objectsdirectly. Simile is easier to identify because it has some markers which areLike, As, and Asas. The problems of this research are: what wordsmark a sentence as an English simile and what is the contextual meaning ofEnglish simile in prose. The aims of this research are to describe the words thatmarked a sentence as an English simile and to describe its contextual meaning inprose. All of the data were taken from the book entitle Chicken Soup for theTeenage Soul III. In this research, the writer uses a descriptive qualitativemethod which is not only on collecting and arranging the data, but also coversanalysis and interpretations of the data. From 100 data of similes, the writerclassified them into three main categories and three sub-categories. There are 52% similes marked by the word Like, 28 % similes marked by the word As,and 20 % similes marked by the word Asas. The writer also included theexplanation of the contextual meaning of the similes.
