摘要：The English modals will, would, can, and could have several meaning inIndonesian . In some different sentences the English modals will, would, can,and could cannot be translated into only one meaning. The aims of this paper areto find out the function of English modals will, would, can, and could and toshow the translation of English modals will, would, can, and could. The writertries to find out how to translate English modals will, would, can, and could byexamining two versions novels, which are Bloodline by Sidney Sheldonand Garis Darah by Threes Susilastuti. The writer uses library research as themethodology of research. The theories are taken from some books that arerelated to the topic. The English modals will, would, can, and could have severalfunctions, which are to express ability, permission, possibility, impossibility,willingness, etc. In this research the writer only explain ability, permission,possibility and willingness. Modals will, would, can, and could also have severaldifferent meanings if they are translated into Indonesian. Modals will, would,can, and could can be translated into mampu, bisa, harus, ingin, akan, and dapat,into Indonesian.
