  • 摘要:This skripsi entitled The Influence of Indonesian and Turkish Mother Tonguesin Applying English Modal Verbs. A Comparative Study on Two ForeignStudents (Indonesian and Turkish). is a comparative study between twoEnglish learners, from Indonesia and Turkey, conducted to compare how farIndonesian and Turkish mother tongues influence these two students in applyingEnglish modal verbs. The aims of this study are to describe the factors whichinfluence the two foreign students (Indonesian and Turkish) mastery inapplying English modal verbs, and to describe to what extent the mother tonguesof English learners play a role in applying English modal verbs. This studyinvolved two respondents who are English learners and come from differentcountries (Indonesia and Turkey). They are now studying at Faculty of Letters ata University in Depok. The data of personal background of the respondents arecollected through written test material, in the form of translation test. The typesof the data in this data are verbal and written report data. The verbal report dataconsists of personal background of two English learners. The written report datacontains the written test that will show their mastery in English especially intranslating English modal verbs. The result of this study shows the factors whichinfluence the Indonesian students (Respondent A) and Turkish students(Respondent B) mastery in applying English modal verbs. The significance ofthis study is based on the result of the study and its analysis is to those Englishteaching practitioners and to the students of English, either foreign or localstudents. Keyword : INFLUENCE, MOTHER TONGUES, MODAL VERBS,COMPARATIVE
