摘要:This article approaches the genealogy of the differentiation between popular and high culture in the intellectual production of three of the most relevant sociologists of culture, George Simmel, Theodor, W. Adorno and Walter Benjamin. However, far beyond cultural studies, what constitutes their most important contribution from the sociological point of view is the construction of the notion of society that is inherent in their work. In order to asses these ideas the notion of style in Simmel, the negative dialectic in Adorno and the notion of illumination in Benjamin are problematized as opposed ways of social imagination.
