摘要：An analysis of “pretérito perfeito simples” (simple past tense) and “pretérito perfeito composto” (compound past tense) in Brazilian Portuguese showed that such tenses must be distinguished according to features other than temporal; both tenses can be used to express a situation that begins in the past and extends up to the present.
