摘要:Soil subgrade has an important role in supporting road pavement construction, especially in establishment of the pavement structure. Swelling characteristic and bearing capacity of the clay soil as a subgrade should be carefully considered in the design to fit the specification. In fact, poor soil such as clay, in some cases, should be replaced by another soil from remote location, or by stabilization of this origin soils to overcome the weakness. In other hand, textile industry has a difficulty with their waste material such as sludge. Sludge is a material that could be potentially used to stabilize poor soils because it contains Ca and Ca CO3 or lime materials. Stabilization of clay soil by using sludge was conducted in this research with the basis of laboratory test. Zeolit was used to neutralize the environmental impact of sludge in its application to the soil subgrade. Improvement of subgrade soil characteristics was the objective in this research. The research result showed that plasticity index and swelling decrease 12.86% and 26.3% respectively. CBR standard increase 85.4% and CBR (curing) increase 20.15% with curing time of 21 days, CBR (soaked) sharply increase 126.37%. It was concluded that sludge could be used in stabilizing clay for subgrade soils.keyword : Clay, Waste materials, Stabilization, Subgrade
