摘要:Although consumer credit has grown very fast over the last decade, the dimension of the market is still small by international standards and its degree of development differs considerably across local markets. This paper presents an empirical analysis on the determinants of consumer credit based on data from the Italian provinces. The results show a positive correlation between the development of consumer credit and the diffusion of major retail outlets, that enlarge credit supply by offering systematic installment plans through consumer credit transactions, not available for smaller stores.
