摘要:The growing habit of eating out in the daily life of the big cities has brought changes in the way people represent eating and food, as well as the social values associated to it. Distinctions such as "eating out" and "eating at home", "food" and "meal", "straight restaurants" and "fast foods restaurants" and many other local classifications, express important changes in the representation of the relationship between food and man, food and space, food and time, just to mention some of the most evident. This article seeks to interpret some of these changes, taking as empirical cases three food courts located in shopping centers in the city of São Paulo. The observation of the social dynamics of fast food clients in these courts allows us to analyse how personal choices in the act of eating (what, where, when, how and with whom) sustain more general tendencies of an urban sociability in constant change.
