摘要：The text defines some aspects and meanings of the the prduction and consumption of alcoholic beverage in Brazil, from the colonial period to the beginning of 20 century. It studies social and cultural customs related to this consumption, showing how it has always been seen with certain ambiguity, sometimes being accepted, sometimes being criticized. It analyzes some standards of consumption historically defined and compare them to other standards of other times and countries.
