摘要:Taking as empirical reference the Catholic hierarchical speech in Brazil, mainly in the first half of the 20th century, this article focuses on its position as for the appearance and consolidation of Umbanda in the market of symbolical goods. It describes the Catholic reaction to the proliferation of an authentically Brazilian religion threatening the representation elaborated by the clergy, from a Brazil whose catholicity was its distinctive note.
