  • 摘要:This article is the final result of an under graduation project presented in December 2006 at Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto – Universidade de São Paulo. The aim of this work was to diagnose and to denounce the real situation of the elementary school libraries maintained by São Paulo government in Ribeirão Preto town. This work reports the existence and functioning, financial, physical and informative human resources, users and services. The data was obtained by means of verifications in loco, direct observation of the totality of schools that constituted the target of this research and by questionnaires distributed to libraries managers. The results revealed an extremely precarious situation since the libraries practically do not exist in the searched schools, as well as very poor resources in the few existing ones. It shows a total indifference on the part of the competent authorities in relation to an indispensable resource in the education of the Information Society.
