摘要：ResumenLos menores en Toluviejo (Sucre-Colombia) participan en la explotación y transformación física de rocas calcáreas para la obtención de piedra caliza triturada, gravilla, etc. Inician su vida laboral a los 6 años, y es preocupante el impacto que esta actividad puede tener en su salud y calidad de vida. Se seleccionaron intencionalmente 191 menores de una población de 400 que asistían al colegio del pueblo, de los cuales 36 (18%) indicaron que picaban piedra. Se compararon los indicadores en calidad de vida en los trabajadores y no trabajadores, y se observó una calidad de vida en salud más degradada en los menores que pican piedra con respecto a aquellos que no lo hacen, pero con resultados poco significativos, lo cual puede deberse a las precarias condiciones en las que viven los menores de la zona rural de este municipio.AbstractThe children of Toluviejo (Sucre) participate in the exploitation and physical transformation of calcareous rocks to obtain crushed limestone, gravel, etc. They begin working at the age of six, and it is rather worrisome how the impact of this activity can affect their health and quality of life. Intentionally, 191 children were selected from a population of 400 that attended a school in the town mentioned. From these students, 36 (18%) indicated that they crushed rock. Quality of life indicators of the working children and the non working children were compared and it was observed that the quality of life involving health was much more degraded in the children who crush rock than those who do not. Even so, the results were not very significant, which may be due to the fact that the children who reside in the rural zone of this town live in precarious conditions.
